 "The Ex List," a new "comedy" starring Elizabeth Reaser ("Grey's Anatomy"), premieres tonight at 9:00 on CBS. The show is about a woman who visits a psychic and learns that she has - big sigh - already met "The One." He's one of her exes. Now she's got to track them all down and - bigger sigh - start kissing frogs.
I doubt this show will be good. The premise is wafer-thin, so even Reaser's obvious spark won't be enough to keep us watching if the writing is as bad as the idea behind the show. Still, it got me thinking. Yesterday I had lunch with a friend and we ended up talking about "Men in Trees." She confessed that she only started watching it after a bad breakup when she ended up home a lot on Friday nights. I admitted that "Battlestar Galactica" was my breakup show and we laughed about that. Everyone is unlucky in love sometimes, and clearly the networks are banking on us lonelyhearts to watch their Friday night line-ups. Like "Men in Trees," "The Ex Files" is pretty much tailor-made for the recently dumped but hopeful. I can't really make the same argument for "BSG, " but I can't be the only geeky girl who was home alone on Friday nights last spring, no? - Posted by Kate
